{"id":23,"date":"2010-01-22T05:49:55","date_gmt":"2010-01-22T13:49:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/n676.com\/blog\/2010\/health-care-reform\/"},"modified":"2010-01-22T05:51:27","modified_gmt":"2010-01-22T13:51:27","slug":"health-care-reform","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/n676.com\/blog\/2010\/health-care-reform\/","title":{"rendered":"Health Care Reform"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Democrats are planning to scale back their reform package, but they could go the opposite direction.\u00a0 Now that they don&#8217;t have 60 votes, they don&#8217;t need Joe Lieberman.\u00a0 They can come up with a plan he doesn&#8217;t like &#8212; they can bring the public option back.\u00a0 They just need something that 51 senators like.<\/p>\n<p>Harry Reid is terrified of filibusters.\u00a0 Why not let Republicans filibuster?\u00a0 A filibuster can&#8217;t last forever.<\/p>\n<p>Health care reform can be divided into 2 categories &#8212; universal coverage and everything else.\u00a0 46 million uninsured is the elephant in the room.\u00a0 If we ignore the elephant in the room, then we end up with a rather anemic bill.\u00a0 The only thing that Democrats and Republicans agree on is the little stuff.\u00a0 Tort reform is nice, but it is one of the little things.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t buy into the argument that we need a gradual approach to universal coverage.\u00a0 If two people are arguing about where to build a house, they could compromise and build a house between the two islands.\u00a0 Sometimes the compromise solution isn&#8217;t very good.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m in a field where age discrimination is a problem.\u00a0 There is no guarantee that I&#8217;ll be able to remain employed between now and 65.\u00a0 There are lots of occupations, such as computer programmer and auto mechanic where age discrimination is a problem.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Democrats are planning to scale back their reform package, but they could go the opposite direction.\u00a0 Now that they don&#8217;t have 60 votes, they don&#8217;t need Joe Lieberman.\u00a0 They can come up with a plan he doesn&#8217;t like &#8212; they can bring the public option back.\u00a0 They just need something that 51 senators like.
